2) New Horizons in Planetary Systems

The 2019 meeting “New Horizons in Planetary Systems” is a science conference jointly organized by NRC Herzberg in Victoria, BC and NRAO in Charlottesville, VA under the auspices of the NAASC (North American ALMA Science Center). This meeting will have a broad scope, including planetary systems in formation within protoplanetary disks, minor objects in the solar system, debris disks and exoplanets, with a focus on, but not limited to, ALMA observations and/or talks related to areas of ALMA observations. As the name suggests, we plan to highlight results from the New Horizons spacecraft, which will have its KBO flyby in January 2019.

The science organization of this meeting has strived to invite speakers from across the EM spectrum, so the meeting is not limited to ALMA experts or uniquely ALMA science areas. Invited speakers have been asked to give broadly accessible review talks. We encourage all those interested in the science scope of the meeting to attend and submit abstracts for contributed talks and posters.

Meeting attendance will be capped at 250 participants. This is a hard cap, and registrants interested in the meeting once the cap is reached will be placed on a waitlist.

"This session primarily focuses on the neutral atmospheres of terrestrial bodies other than the Earth. This includes not only Venus and Mars, but also exoplanets with comparable envelopes and satellites carrying dense atmospheres such as Titan or exospheres such as Ganymede. We welcome contributions dealing with processes affecting the atmospheres of these bodies, from the surface to the exosphere. We invite abstracts concerning observations, both from Earth or from space, modeling and theoretical studies, or laboratory work. Comparative planetology abstracts will be particularly appreciated.”

Depuis sa fondation en 1979, l'IRAM fédère la communauté
(sub-)millimétrique et permet à la France de disposer d'instruments
exceptionnels pour l'observation de l'Univers froid. Ces 10 dernières
années, les capacités du télescope de 30m et de l'interféromètre du Plateau
de Bure (aujourd'hui NOEMA) ont décuplé. Les développements instrumentaux
en cours vont encore considérablement augmenter leurs capacités dans les
années à venir. L'IRAM présentera les capacités actuelles de ses deux
observatoires et les futurs développements dans le cadre d'un atelier
organisé à Paris sur une journée. L'objectif est notamment de discuter de
programmes observationnels français ambitieux pour tirer au mieux parti de
ces nouvelles capacités et profiter ainsi pleinement des investissements
effectués.

L'ensemble de la communauté est invité. Nous encourageons en particulier
les jeunes (chercheurs, post-docs, étudiants en thèse) à participer. Nous
visons aussi à élargir l'audience au delà des utilisateurs habitués de
l'IRAM. Nous souhaitons que la communauté française puisse présenter ses
idées et avancements, avec des contributions invitées, mais aussi de
nombreuses présentations courtes (5 minutes), dites "flash talks", suivies

2) Hera mission workshop

15-16 November, Natural History Museum, Berlin (Germany)

Hera is ESA’s contribution to the Asteroid Impact Deflection Assessment international cooperation, targeting the deflection demonstration of a hazardous NEA, in the new ESA program called Space Safety. Hera will also be the first in-depth investigation of a binary asteroid, including the smallest asteroid visited so far (the moon of the binary) and will perform relevant measurements for planetary defense, science and mining. The Hera workshop is open to the whole small body community as well as industry interested in innovative small deep-space missions.

1) Caltech Space Challenge

My name is Fabien Royer, and I am a graduate student at Caltech and co-chair of the Caltech Space Challenge 2019. It is a prestigious 5-day event held March 24-29, 2019 in which undergraduate and graduate students from all around the world compete in designing a space-related mission. The 2019 edition of the Caltech Space Challenge, called Encelanders, is inspired by the recently ended Cassini mission: searching for traces of life on Saturn's moon Enceladus. The participants will be asked to develop a mission concept based on a network of small landers to explore the sources of Enceladus' geysers.

NEW QUESTS IN STELLAR ASTROPHYSICS IV
ASTROCHEMISTRY, ASTROBIOLOGY
AND THE ORIGIN OF LIFE
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: March 31 - April 5, 2019

This is the fourth of the "New Quests in Stellar Astrophysics” meeting
series aimed at stressing the importance of stellar physics to
understand the properties of stars, their progeny and stellar systems at
different scales. In the first meeting, in 2001, we reviewed the impact
of stellar physics on global properties of stellar aggregates up to
cosmological scales. In the second meeting, held in 2007, we focused on
the UV interval to review our current knowledge on the properties of
nearby and distant evolved stellar populations. The conference in 2012
was devoted to the multiwavelength perspective of solar-like (H fueled)
stars and addressed some of the important findings related to exoplanet
searches. The event for 2019 intends to convene researchers and young
scholars from several fields (Astrophysics, Biology, Chemistry, etc.) to
show the latest results on a number of interdisciplinary topics and
enable cross-fertilization between scientists in the various
disciplines. It will also be a good opportunity to gain insight into the
future instrumentation from the ground and space that will substantially
contribute to the exploration of the solar system and beyond in search
of clues for understanding how life emerged from cosmic and planetary
precursors.

Among the main topics to be discussed are:

Chemical networks in star formation to form complex (prebiotic) molecules, deuterium enrichment.
Astrochemistry of young and mature star+disk systems.
Prospects for exoplanet characterization: detection methods, observational probes, multi-wavelength observations and the search for biomarkers.
Exoplanetary theoretical models: interiors, magnetic fields, atmospheres, geochemistry.
Habitability of exo-worlds: space weather, time domain, dynamics and chemistry.
Scenarios on the emergence of life on Earth.

4) Deuxième Journée SKA-France - Paris, 23 Novembre 2018

Après le succès de la première Journée SKA-France du 16 Octobre 2017, la Maison SKA-France organise une deuxième journée pour présenter à la communauté les résultats et avancements réalisés au cours de la dernière année, l'état du projet SKA, ainsi que les prochaines étapes du travail de préparation à SKA au niveau national et international.

5) DPS WORKSHOP ON LABORATORY STUDIES OF ATMOSPHERES AND PLUMES

Workshop on "Laboratory Studies of Atmospheres and Plumes" organized by the Laboratory Astrophysics Division of AAS.

The object of the Laboratory Astrophysics Division (LAD) is to advance our understanding of the Universe through the promotion of fundamental theoretical and experimental research into the underlying processes that drive the cosmos. This LAD workshop will consist of five 15-minute-long invited talks showcasing the laboratory astrophysics work being conducted to support planetary missions for the exploration of our solar system and beyond. The invited talks will demonstrate how missions like Cassini, New Horizons, Rosetta, and future missions focused on Europa or exoplanets can benefit from these experimental and theoretical studies. They will be followed by a 10-minute panel discussion to encourage participants to explore the laboratory astrophysics needs for planetary science studies and initiate conversations that could lead to future collaborations and new` research investigations.

The workshop program will be as follows:

6) NEW DATES FOR THE PLUTO-2019 CONFERENCE (PSANH)

The dates for the Pluto System After New Horizons (PSANH), an
international science conference on the Pluto system and the Kuiper
Belt, have shifted by two days to July 14-18, 2019 (Sunday through
Thursday). The venue remains the same: the conference will be held at
the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, MD.

7) International Venus Conference 2019 (IVC2019) as the replacement of the cancelled IVC2018

Announcement: the 74th Fujihara Seminar/IVC2019

International Venus Conference 2019 (IVC2019) as the replacement of
the cancelled IVC2018 will be held at the same location basically in
the same manner.

Because of the extra expense caused by the postponement due to the
earthquake, we have to raise the registration fee and we will be able
to support only a very limited number or will not be able to provide
travel supports.

We are sorry for the inconvenience due to cancellation, but we are
looking forward to seeing you all at IVC2019.

Afin de coordonner les propositions de stages de Master 2 (M2R) issues des laboratoires, un serveur de stages de M2 a été développé par des collègues grenoblois en concertation avec le bureau de la SF2A et les divers responsables des Master concernés

Il est important de souligner que ce serveur est l’unique moyen pour déposer vos propositions de stage à l’attention de ces Masters recherche en Astrophysique, qui seront ensuite diffusées aux étudiants suivant les modalités de chacun des Masters respectifs. Par ailleurs, certains de ces Masters accueillent également des élèves-ingénieurs et il est donc possible de proposer des stages à dominante plus appliquée et instrumentale si vous désirez intéresser ces élèves-ingénieurs.

Les propositions doivent être déposées au plus tôt sur le serveur pour une diffusion à partir du 15 octobre 2018 dans chacun des Masters. Après cette date, le serveur restera ouvert et accessible aux étudiants, les sujets continueront d’être validés par les responsables de formation.

10) Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Geochemistry – Earth/Planetary Processes

The Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Brown University (http://www.brown.edu/academics/earth-environmental-planetary-sciences/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in geochemistry. Any analytical, experimental and theoretical/computational approach to understanding the origin and chemical evolution of the Earth and planets will be considered. Some examples include, but are not limited to, cosmochemistry, planetary petrology, non-traditional stable isotope geochemistry, early Earth evolution, volcanology, and interactions of planetary materials with hydrospheres and atmospheres. Preference will be given to candidates whose strengths complement departmental research expertise in Geochemistry and Petrology, Planetary Geoscience, Geophysics, and Climate and Environment. We seek scientists whose research integrates field observations, geochemical analyses, experimental studies, and geochemical theory and/or modeling. We are interested in scientists whose research transcends traditional boundaries in geochemistry, such as between high-temperature and low-temperature geochemistry, geochemistry and geophysics, and terrestrial and planetary. The successful candidate will maintain an active, externally funded research program and enjoy a commitment to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level. A Ph.D. degree is required, and postdoctoral experience is considered important.
