1) Atelier sur la science du système solaire avec l’ELT --- 14 mai 2020 --- LAM, Mareille

L'ELT est actuellement en phase de construction et devrait être opérationnel en 2025. Trois instruments de première génération sont en cours de réalisation : MICADO, HARMONI, et METIS. Un quatrième instrument de première génération est en cours de définition : MAORY. La France est impliquée dans tous ces instruments, que ce soit sur le plan technique ou scientifique.
L’intérêt de la communauté française de planétologie pour l’ELT est grand, mais nous devons nous organiser pour maximiser le retour scientifique. L’objectif de cet atelier est donc d’échanger autour de la thématique de la science du système solaire avec l'ELT, afin d'informer, de coordonner, et de préparer au mieux notre communauté de planétologues à l’arrivée de l'ELT.
L’atelier aura lieu sur une journée, le jeudi 14 mai 2020 au Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (LAM), de 10h à 17h pour permettre au plus grand nombre de faire l’aller-retour dans la journée. L’atelier est limité à 80 places, la capacité de l’amphithéâtre du LAM. Les présentations et les discussions se feront de préférence en français.

2) James Webb Space Telescope | Cycle 1 Call for Proposals | Proposal Deadline: May 01, 2020
We are pleased to announce the release of the Cycle 1 Call for Proposals for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Observations and funding for Archival Research and Theoretical Research programs.
Participation in this program is open to all categories of organizations, both domestic and foreign, including educational institutions, profit and nonprofit organizations, NASA Centers, and other Government agencies.
This solicitation for proposals will be open through May 01, 2020 8:00pm EDT. The current release of the Astronomer's Proposal Tools (APT), required for Proposal Submission, can be used to prepare proposals. We encourage prospective investigators to start preparing their proposals as soon as possible. The final version for Cycle 1 use will be released in early March. Results of the selection will be announced in late August.

We welcome the participation of the astronomical community to the BlueMUSE science workshop, which will happen between March 30th and April 1st in Lyon, France
REGISTRATION AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION (no registration fees)
BlueMUSE is one of the instrument concepts presented at the VLT2030 workshop, for which ESO is requesting white papers in its long-term implementation plan. It is an optical seeing-limited, blue-optimised, medium spectral resolution, panoramic integral-field-spectrograph, to be installed on one of the telescopes of the VLT on Cerro Paranal (Chile).
This workshop aims at bringing together the scientific community and discuss the key science cases in relation with the top level requirements and capabilities of BlueMUSE. It is an opportunity to engage the community and push forward the BlueMUSE project. We are specifically seeking input from the community on specific science cases where BlueMUSE will have a strong impact due to its uniqueness.
The workshop program will include a few overview and invited talks but the large majority will be dedicated to individual contributions and scientific discussions.
The topics we aim to cover are the following:
Solar system
Galactic (including stars and ISM)
Nearby galaxies
Distant galaxies and cosmology
Discussions on synergies with current and future facilities

5) FROM CLOUDS TO PLANETS II: THE ASTROCHEMICAL LINK --- Harnack Haus, Berlin --- 28.09-02.10, 2020

In 2015, we gathered at the Harnack Haus in Berlin to discuss about star and planet formation
and the crucial role played by Astrochemistry in our understanding of the various steps that
transform an interstellar cloud in stellar systems like our own. It is now time to meet again and
present the exciting results that have been achieved in recent years, thanks to ALMA, IRAM,
JVLA, GBT, APEX, SOFIA and other facilities, as well as thanks to coordinated efforts in the
laboratory and theory (in particular, quantum chemistry and chemical-dynamical models of
evolving clouds and disks). This will be important to cast a fresh look into the future, which we
already know is going to be bright, thanks to revolutionary telescopes coming up in the next
few years (such as JWST and ELT) and next decades (SKA and ngVLA).
During the conference, we will make a journey through space and time, starting from interstellar
clouds and then moving to cloud filaments and dense cores on the verge of star formation, to
protostars and their embedded disks, to planet-forming disks to exoplanet and finally landing in
our Solar System, while delving into laboratory facilities and theoretical calculations and
simulations. Each evening, before dinner, there will be a general talk on each topic of the
conference (the “aperitive talk”), to allow all communities to understand better the “big picture”
and to facilitate finding links across disciplines, which always provide fertile ground in our
journey towards understanding our astrochemical origins.
Students and young researchers are encouraged to attend and interact with all participants,
to present their work and broaden their horizons. Some financial help will be available for them
upon request.
The total number of participants is limited to less than or equal to 120.

7) LSST@Europe4 --- Shaping the European Contribution to LSST | Rome, Italy | 8 —12 June 2020

This conference follows the very successful LSST@Europe1 (Cambridge), 2 (Belgrade) and 3 (Lyon) workshops organized in 2013, 2016 and 2018 to foster the European participation in the LSST project, as well as the analogous LSST@ASIA organized in 2019 by and for the Asian, Australian and African communities.
The LSST project is moving forward in the construction phase, and activities in the LSST Science Collaborations are vibrant and involve a significant European participation.
The recent adoption of an “in-kind” contribution to regulate the access of International participants to the LSST data clearly represents a major paradigm shift for the participation of the European astronomical community, with existing agreements that need to be re-negotiated by mid-2021.
The LSST@Europe4 conference, right in the middle of this path, provides the community with a perfect opportunity to discuss proposals and plans.
In this framework, the main objectives of LSST@Europe4 are to:
- provide an update of the status of the LSST Project;
- foster and promote the participation of European scientists to the activities of the Science Collaborations;
- discuss opportunities and proposals to help European participants shape the “in-kind” contributions for the development of the LSST project;
- discuss potential common initiatives at the European level to support the participation of European scientists to LSST;
- provide an update description of the LSST data products of different levels;
- discuss the LSST science drivers: current perspectives and future developments;
- explore synergies with other facilities, with a special emphasis on the European ones.

12) Post-Doc "Contribution à la réalisation d’une détection hétérodyne spécifiquement dédiée à la ligne AILES du synchrotron SOLEIL"
Le sujet propose d’accompagner certains développements techniques, encore inédit, du programme HEROES1 retenu par l’Agence Nationale pour la Recherche. L’objectif est de développer une détection hétérodyne spécifique à l’analyse spectrale haute résolution du rayonnement synchrotron dans l’InfraRouge Lointain (1 à 5 THz dans ce projet) dans son mode de stockage dit « classique ». Pour atteindre ce but, nous disposons d’un oscillateur local de nouvelle génération. Il s’agit d’un laser moléculaire breveté par l’un de nos partenaires et qui a bénéficié d’un programme de maturation de la SATT Nord2. Une première démonstration expérimentale a été réalisée autour de 1 THz3 et le défi consiste à adapter ce premier prototype pour atteindre des fréquences de travail beaucoup plus importante. L’un des verrous technologiques réside dans la métrologie de fréquences qui se doit d’être compatible avec les applications de spectroscopie à résolution sub-MHz. La stabilité en fréquence (sur plusieurs échelles de temps), la pureté spectrale, la précision absolue en fréquence de chaque nouvelles raies d’émissions laser seront étudiées en bénéficiant d’un instrument unique développé au LPCA: il s’agit d’un synthétiseur THz basé sur la technique de photomélange et verrouillé sur un peigne de fréquences (« frequency comb »). Une tâche particulière sera d’étendre le nombre de transitions laser accessibles afin de couvrir le plus efficacement possible la bande spectrale comprise entre1 et 4 THz. Une dernière difficulté est d’adapter cet ensemble (mélangeur et oscillateurs locaux) à l’environnement du centre de rayonnement synchrotron dans un souci de « convivialité » compatible avec une exploitation en routine par de futurs utilisateurs.
Les travaux auront lieux au Laboratoire de Physico-Chimie de l’Atmosphère situé à Dunkerque à proximité immédiate de grandes villes Européennes (Bruxelles, Lille, Londres, Gand, Rotterdam et Paris). Des campagnes de mesures et de tests seront également programmées sur la ligne AILES du Synchrotron SOLEIL

Fellowship 2: “Low-temperature chemistry for DRIFT-MARCS”.

Fellowship 3: “Connecting the atmosphere and the interior in extrasolar gas planets”.
Aim: Connecting the interior of exoplanets with observations of the atmosphere (i.e. spectra, colours etc), and compare results from 1D and 3D computations. Using these models to study inflated close-in planets (i.e. solving “the hot jupiter radius anomaly”).

14) TWO-YEARS POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER POSITION IN NUMERICAL MODELLING OF THE IONOSPHERE --- IRAP, Toulouse, France - from 1st of March 2020
Following call to tender SU-SPACE-22-SEC-2019: Space Weather, in the frame Horizon2020, EUHFORIA 2.0 project (PI: S. Poedts, KU Leuven, Belgium) has been recently selected. It aims at developing the world’s most advanced space weather forecasting tool and will address geoeffectiveness, impacts and mitigation, including extreme events, related to solar eruptions, solar wind streams and Solar Energetic Particles, with particular emphasis on its application to forecast Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) and radiation on geospace. In this context, IRAP-CNRS (Toulouse France) is involved in the development of the GICs forecasting work package by providing forecasts of geomagnetic variations at any point on the ground. The main points of this work package are first the coupling of IPIM ionosphere model and IMM electrodynamics model, already developed in the group at IRAP, and then the development of a Biot-Savart module, which will use the output for the coupled models to calculate the ionospheric horizontal currents responsible for the GICs. IRAP ionosphere group is seeking a post-doctoral researcher to lead the aforementioned developments.

As conveners we would like to invite researchers in the planetary space weather community and in the planetary environments to submit abstracts.
In the present session, we welcome abstracts from all planets’ upstream solar wind activities and their relation to planetary space weather, including especially magnetized bodies (like Mercury, the Earth, Saturn and Jupiter) as well as comparisons with unmagnetized bodies (Mars and Venus), with a special focus of this session on the planet Mercury whose environment in a few years will be the main goal of the dual ESA/JAXA mission BepiColombo.
In this frame, we welcome studies on:
- magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling dynamics (and auroras where present);
- the solar wind interaction with planets and moons;
- inter-comparisons of planetary environments;
- observations of space weather effects from space probes and Earth-based instrumentation;
- theoretical modeling and simulations, especially in view of measurement analysis and interpretation;
- potential impacts of space weathering on technological space systems.

3) [Second announcement] JWST France Workshop: preparing for GO Cycle 1 call for proposals
The call for proposals for the GO Cycle 1 of the James Webb Space Telescope will be released on January 23rd 2020, with an expected deadline on May 1st 2020. To prepare the community for the proposal submission process, we are organizing a workshop on Feb 24-25 2020 to be held at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris:

The program will include overview presentations of the JWST status and the scientific landscape that will be covered by JWST observations. Most of the time will be dedicated to hands-on sessions where participants will familiarize themselves with the proposal tools (ETC, APT) through a series of guided demonstrations and exercises. In the registration form, participants can select the observing modes they would like to see covered by the hands-on sessions.
The workshop will be limited to 50 participants. We strongly encourage participants to register as soon as possible on the workshop webpage. There is no registration fees. Limited financial support will be available for a few participants.

As conveners we would like to invite researchers in the planetary space weather community and in the planetary environments to submit abstracts.
In the present session, we welcome abstracts from all planets’ upstream solar wind activities and their relation to planetary space weather, including especially magnetized bodies (like Mercury, the Earth, Saturn and Jupiter) as well as comparisons with unmagnetized bodies (Mars and Venus), with a special focus of this session on the planet Mercury whose environment in a few years will be the main goal of the dual ESA/JAXA mission BepiColombo.
In this frame, we welcome studies on:
- magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling dynamics (and auroras where present);
- the solar wind interaction with planets and moons;
- inter-comparisons of planetary environments;
- observations of space weather effects from space probes and Earth-based instrumentation;
- theoretical modeling and simulations, especially in view of measurement analysis and interpretation;
- potential impacts of space weathering on technological space systems.

"This session primarily focuses on the neutral atmospheres of terrestrial bodies other than the Earth. This includes not only Venus and Mars, but also exoplanets with comparable envelopes and satellites carrying dense atmospheres such as Titan or exospheres such as Ganymede. We welcome contributions dealing with processes affecting the atmospheres of these bodies, from the surface to the exosphere. We invite abstracts concerning observations, both from Earth or from space, modeling and theoretical studies, or laboratory work. Comparative planetology abstracts will be particularly appreciated.”

3) OHP - 2020 Colloquium : Planets of red dwarf stars --- 27 Sept. - 2 Oct. 2020 --- Observatoire de Haute-Provence (France)

Planets orbiting low-mass M-dwarf stars have been among the prime targets of exoplanet research for many years. The well-known reasons include an increased transit depth, radial velocity signal, and contrast with respect to planets orbiting hotter stars. With the upcoming telescopes and observatories such as JWST and the E-ELT, the characterisation of the atmospheres of rocky planets around low-mass stars is going to become feasible, and will open new avenues of research.
The Colloquium "OHP-2020: planets of red dwarf stars" will review the last years of observational and theoretical advances in the research of planets around low-mass stars, including their detection and the characterisation of their interior structure and atmospheres. We hope to identify ways to advance the key questions and solve the most pressing issues regarding the study of these systems, exploring the synergies between current and new facilities, and theoretical advances.
The colloquium will focus on:
detection of exoplanets around low-mass stars by radial-velocity, transit, and imaging surveys
characterisation of M-dwarf planets (e.g. atmospheres, interiors, obliquity, host multiplicity, etc.
interior and atmospheric modelling (including habitability around red dwarfs)
stellar variability for the lowest-mass stars (granulation, rotation, activity cycles, etc.
theories of formation and evolution
future instrumentation and observatories
The Observatoire de Haute Provence is located in Southern France, near the village of Saint Michel l’Observatoire. It is place of discovery of 51 Peg b --an achievement that earned Mayor & Queloz the Nobel prize in Physics in 2019-- and of the co-discovery of Gl876 b, the first planet detected around an M-dwarf star. The 193-cm telescope is now equipped with the SOPHIE spectrograph, which produces a steady contribution to exoplanet studies. Up to 80 participants are expected. Accommodation will be provided inside and close to the Observatory for the duration of the Colloquium. Students and post-docs are particularly encouraged to register and contribute their work. Limited financial support to cover travel and lodging expenses will be available for students/young researchers that submit abstract.

We are happy to announce the Exoplanets in Our Backyard: Solar System and Exoplanet Synergies on Planetary Formation, Evolution, and Habitability workshop scheduled for February 5–7, 2020 at the Lunar and Planetary Institute, 3600 Bay Area Blvd., Houston, Texas. The Outer Planets Assessment Group (OPAG) meeting is scheduled at the LPI two days prior to the Exoplanets workshop. More information regarding the OPAG meeting, as it becomes available, will be posted to the OPAG website.
Purpose and Scope
Exoplanets in Our Backyard is a workshop hosted by the Venus Exploration Analysis Group (VEXAG), the Outer Planets Assessment Group (OPAG), and the Exoplanet Exploration Program Analysis Group (ExoPAG) to examine and discuss exoplanet-solar system synergies on planetary properties, formation, evolution, and habitability. Topics to be covered include comparative planetology on worlds near and far; solar system studies as a baseline to inform studies of extrasolar planetary properties and evolution; and lessons learned on planetary statistics, demographics, and system architectures from extrasolar planetary systems. This workshop aims to foster and build new collaborations among scientists in the solar system and exoplanet communities and to help guide the direction of future exploration and observations of worlds in the solar system and beyond.

Atmosphere, Interior, formation and evolution of planets and planetary systems. The Solar System Planets and Exoplanets communities aim at answering similar questions, but seldom interact due to the different datasets they have access to.
Nevertheless, exchanges between these two communities are bringing essential contributions to Planetary Science: migration theories and impact of dynamical interactions on planet formation are just a few examples.
Our main goal is to foster future collaborations between these two communities by confer about a non-exhaustive list of science questions:
What do we learn from terrestrial planets in the Solar System about the diversity of Super-Earths internal structure and atmospheres?
What are the insights and context that Super-Earths population provide regarding the formation and history of the rocky planets in the Solar System?
What do we learn from Uranus and Neptune about the formation, structure and composition of ice-giants planets?
What do we know about ice-giant exoplanet atmospheres and can it help us understand the composition of the deep atmosphere of Uranus and Neptune?
What can the analysis of evaporating hot Jupiter tell us about the deep atmosphere composition of Jupiter and Saturn?
What do we learn from Cassini and Juno about the composition and formation of exoplanetary gas giant?
What can we learn from the distribution of known exoplanets about the population of undetected Solar System analogs?
Can the architecture of exoplanetary systems teach us more about the history of the Solar System?
How the future missions and instruments (PLATO, ARIEL, JUICE, ExoMars, …) will change our understanding of planetary sciences?
We aim to discuss how the detailed and in situ datasets from Solar System planets can inform the often under constrained exoplanetary models. We will try to uncover how the diversity and large sample offered by exoplanets can put in context and inform our understanding of Solar System planets, focusing on each of these categories:
Super-Earths, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Earth
Ice giants, Uranus and Neptune
Gas giants, Jupiter and Saturn
Planetary System architecture
6) ENVISION CONFERENCE --- 12-14 FEB 2020 --- PARIS, FRANCE
You are warmly invited to join the first international conference to discuss the scientific investigations of the EnVision mission at CNES headquarters in central Paris, France from 12-14 February 2020. EnVision is a proposed orbiter mission aiming at determining the level and nature of the geological activity and the sequence of events that generated the surface features of Venus, assessing whether Venus once had oceans (and was thus perhaps hospitable for life) and understanding the geodynamics framework that controls the release of internal heat over Venus’ history. EnVision will use a number of different techniques to search for active geological processes, measure changes in surface temperature associated with active volcanism, characterise regional and local geological features, determine crustal support mechanisms and constrain mantle and core properties. The mission is currently in its concept study phase for a selection expected in 2021.

IRAM is seeking a qualified candidate for a position in the NOEMA Science Operations Group (SOG). The candidate is expected to invest 50% of the time on z-GAL, an international project aimed at investigating the nature and physical properties of the brightest submillimeter galaxies in the Herschel surveys (H-ATLAS and HerMES). As a member of the z-GAL consortium, the candidate will be fully involved in the scientific exploitation, analysis and modeling of the data collected with the NOEMA interferometer, and collaborate on follow-up research activities conducted in the frame of the z-GAL project.
The candidate will also spend 50% of the time in a range of activities of the SOG to support the integration and science verification of NOEMA subsystems, provide assistance to the scientific operation of NOEMA as an astronomer on duty, support the broader user community in the preparation of proposals and observations, and provide technical expertise to visiting astronomers in the analysis and interpretation of data obtained with the NOEMA interferometer. Depending on experience and skills, the successful candidate may also take part in software developments aimed at extending NOEMA's capabilities.
We are seeking qualified candidates with a PhD, preferably with a demonstrated observational experience and a strong interest in (sub)millimeter wave interferometry. Good English communication skills and a strong sense of team spirit are essential attributes. Aptitude and interest in developing software applications and working experience in an international research environment are assets. Applicants must possess a driver's license.
Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae, bibliography, a brief statement of research interests, an outline of future plans, and arrange for three letters of reference. The Ice Giant Systems 2020 workshop will be held in London between January 20th-22nd 2020, consisting of two days of plenary review talks at the Royal Society, and a day of parallel splinter meetings at Burlington House. Plenaries: The plenary sessions on Monday and Tuesday are free to attend (with a small optional charge for meals), but registration is mandatory. Monday will cover the Ice Giant planets (interiors, atmospheres, magnetospheres) and their systems (satellites and rings); Tuesday will cover interdisciplinary connections, a celebration of Voyager’s discoveries, future mission opportunities and hardware developments, and ample time for discussion. Splinters: There will be three broad themes for the splinters, depending on demand: Ice Giant Atmospheres, Origins and Interiors; Ice Giant Magnetospheres and Auroras; Ice Giant Rings and Satellites. 5) JWST France Workshop: preparing for GO Cycle 1 call for proposals --- Feb 24-25 2020 --- Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris
The call for proposals for the GO Cycle 1 of the James Webb Space Telescope will open next January, with an expected deadline in May 2020. To prepare the community for the proposal submission process, we are organizing a workshop on Feb 24-25 2020 to be held at the Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris:

The program will include overview presentations of the JWST status and the scientific landscape that will be covered by JWST observations. Most of the time will be dedicated to hands-on sessions where participants will familiarize themselves with the proposal tools (ETC, APT) through a series of guided demonstrations and exercises.
The workshop will be limited to 45 participants. We strongly encourage participants to register as soon as possible, and before January 15th 2020, on the workshop webpage . There is no registration fees. Limited financial support might be available for a few participants (subject to confirmation in December).
