Planetary Geomorphology at EGU 2020

Please consider submitting an abstract to the session on Planetary Geomorphology (GM11.1/PS4) at EGU 2020 (Vienna, 3-8 May 2020).

The Planetary Geomorphology session aims to bring together geomorphologists who study the Earth with those who work on other bodies such as Mars, Venus, Mercury, the Moon, icy satellites of the outer solar system, comets, and/or asteroids. Studies applicable to landscapes on any scale on any solid body are welcome. We particularly encourage those who use Earth analogues or laboratory/numerical simulation to submit their work. Considered processes could include aeolian, volcanic, tectonic, fluvial, glacial, periglacial, or "undetermined" ones. We especially welcome contributions from early-career scientists and geomorphologists who are new to planetary science.The session will include an invited presentation from Michelle Koutnik on the topic of ice preservation and landscape erosion during glacial retreat on Earth and Mars.

The abstract deadline is 15th January 2020 (13:00 CET), but those seeking financial support must submit their abstract by 1st December 2019 to be eligible.

2) Cosmochemistry position at the University of Colorado, Boulder

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado at Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position to start in August 2020, in the general field of Cosmochemistry. The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous program, complementary to the ongoing research of the Institute for Modeling Plasmas, Atmospheres, and Cosmic Dust (IMPACT:, a node in NASA’s Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI).  

Areas of interest include: Analysis and interpretation of composition measurements of cosmic dust and their significance for studies of the origins and evolution of the solar system. Development of new laboratory experiments at the Colorado Dust Accelerator Facility to support instrument development and data analysis. Using dust composition measurements to model the chemical evolution of solar system bodies: Moon, asteroids, comets, and all other planetary objects. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Physics, Planetary Sciences, Chemistry, or related areas completed by March 15, 2020.

3) Postdoc position at LAM in cometary science
Scientific analysis of the data from the Rosetta space mission, in particular the data from the OSIRIS cameras
The work will be carried on at the Laboratoire d’Astrophysique de Marseille (, in the group of planetary sciences, in collaboration with Olivier Groussin and Laurent Jorda. To fulfill these research activities, the institute will provide the necessary support (e.g. office space, computer, publication and travel money).
The work will focus on the data analysis of the Rosetta mission of the European Space Agency (ESA). The applicant will define a research project focused on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. This project must include data from the OSIRIS cameras, either images, and/or nucleus shape model, and/or digital terrain models. The project can be “multi- instruments” and include data from other instruments, in addition to the OSIRIS data (e.g. VIRTIS, MIRO, ROSINA...). Any research project is admissible, centered on the nucleus of 67P (interior, surface) and/or on its coma (dust, gas).
If concluding results are obtained, they will be the topic for article(s) in peer-reviewed journals, and they will be presented in international conference(s).
For this job, the following competences will be evaluated:
- Knowledge and background in cometary sciences
- Competences in space mission data analysis
- A good level in English (reading, listening, writing)
- Capabilities to work in a team
- A good sense of initiative
The applicant must have a thesis in Astrophysics, Physics or Planetary Sciences. Previous experience in cometary sciences and Rosetta data analysis is welcome, but not mandatory.
