4) Workshop REACPLAS (PhOM Research Seminar), LCP (Orsay), 21 novembre 2017

We are pleased to announce the REACPLAS workshop, in the series of PhOM Research Seminars, aiming to bring together specialists (in both experiment and theory) of reactivity and elementary collisional processes in the gas phase with modellers of complex media (such as cold plasmas, planetary atmospheres or interstellar media) whose composition and dynamics are driven by these elementary processes. The objective is to exchange knowledge on the available tools and to identify the important processes necessary occurring in these media that are not yet well characterized and that are in need of further investigation which could benefit from new collaborations.

Waiting for your participation and contributions.

The program of the one-day workshop will comprise :
 - 8 invited talks (30’ + 5’ listed in the program below)
 - 4 contributed talk (15’ + 5’ chosen from submitted abstracts (pdf 1 page) to be sent to Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. Vous devez activer le JavaScript pour la visualiser. before October 27)
 - Posters (during the coffee breaks (2x30’) and lunch (90’))

6) Heraeus-Seminar on: Prebiotic Molecules in Space and Origins of Life on Earth, Bad Honnef March 19-23, 2018.

This is a reminder about the

664 Wilhelm und Else Heraeus-Seminar on: Prebiotic Molecules in Space and Origins of Life on Earth

which will be held at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef (http://www.dpg-physik.de/dpg/pbh/index.html) on March 19-23, 2018.

There are still places available and we encourage you and your students to register and attend this interdisciplinary meeting on Origins of Life, where talks will be intermixed with discussion and interaction among the various research fields. Some funds are available to cover travel and accommodation for students and young researchers upon request.

Motivation
How life originates is one of the outstanding questions of humankind. Different scientific communities, from astrophysicists to planetary scientists, from geochemists to biophysicists, all share the common aim of understanding how life on Earth originated and if life exists elsewhere in the Universe. Despite these common goals, it has been difficult to join forces and focus on the ‘big picture’, as different background and terminology often hinder fruitful interdisciplinary collaborations. In this conference, we plan to bring together astrochemists working on the production of prebiotic molecules in space and their delivery to planet forming regions, Solar System scientists working on the chemical composition of the most pristine material such as comets and primitive meteorites, the exoplanetary atmosphere community, geochemists working on the primitive Earth and its conditions to host life, biophysicists working on the very first steps that assembled prebiotic molecules into the macromolecules used by terrestrial life. We believe that fostering communication and interaction among the various groups is a pre-requisite to succeed in our quest on the origins of life.

Please visit our web page at: https://events.mpe.mpg.de/origins2018 and register (the number of participants is limited to 100).

Looking forward to seeing you at Bad Honnef in March 2018.

Best wishes,

Paola Caselli
on behalf of the Organizing team: Dieter Braun, Cecilia Ceccarelli and Pascale Ehrenfreund
